The "Perfect 10" Cave House Villa in Santorini?
Forget what you've been reading everywhere else: forget Oia! The place you should be staying in Santorini is not Oia but it's the place with the most impressive villas and hotels on the island.
Hey there,
I get asked this question a lot:
What’s the best area to stay in Santorini?
The simple answer is that it really depends and to be honest…there is no such “best area”.
It really depends on your situation (are you travelling solo, couple, with kids, with seniors etc ?).
It also depends on if this is your first time in Santorini because if this is your second or third time on the island then…my suggestion would be totally different.
And obviously…It also really depends on your budget.
However, my proposal has always been a single area: stay at Imerovigli !
Let me explain:
it has the famous volcano and sunset views
it DOES NOT have the tourist crowds that Oia has
it is seclusive
it’s very close to Fira which the main hub of the island (25 mins walk!)
it has a bus station to Oia
it has some very cute and romantic restaurants (looking at you potential honeymooners…)
For example, I recently discovered a new villa that is instantly bookable on Booking.com and it scores a prefect 10 from independent reviews from all over the world:
Ventus Paradiso Villa
This is what is called a “cave house” in Santorini.
Cave houses are houses that are literally carved on the volcanic rock ages ago and they are now renovated and offer some of the most incredible accommodation experiences in the world. They are also an amazing choice for a honeymoon.
Take a look on the real reviews for this one for example:
There are obviously lots of available rooms, hotels and villas to chose from at Imerovigli (not the cheapest option though…just to warn you!) and you can take a look on Booking.com to decide for yourself:
Obviously, there are a ton of other places you can stay in Santorini:
Just a quick reminder that Covid-19 is still here and even though Greece has now relaxed most of the restrictions and the lockdown , it goes without saying that you should always follow the local protocols and government recommendations to keep the local communities and yourself safe.
That’s it from me today, but I will come back soon with more hotels proposals for Santorini (some great budget options and beachside gems), for Mykonos, for Athens and even for Crete.
Stay safe!
