There are places on our planet that are simply beautiful.
And then there are places that are just weird and quirky.
I’ve always been on the hunt for those strange landscapes and whenever I see such a place, it really makes me happy knowing that I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
Greece is full of those and it’s the main reason why it’s one of the most diverse destinations in the world.
One of those quirky places is the Red Beach in Santorini and I recently visited it for one more time.
You have probably seen this marvelous and Mars-like view and it’s even more impressive when you are there.
I am not sure if it’s the red color of the rocks and the geological formations or the fact that you are pretty much sitting on an active volcano but it’s indeed a very cool landscape.
The path that leads to the beach itself is rough, so have to make sure you avoid flip-flops and wear proper shoes.
You will see fallen debris and rocks that came from the hills above. So…be careful!!
You will also be reminded of the falling rocks by signs everywhere.
The path to the beach can become very narrow and it has limited protection on the sides…
When you arrive on the beach level, you need to be aware of the barricaded areas as these are safety zones from falling debris and rocks:
I am not going to lie to you: this is not really the best beach in Greece or one that someone could spend a whole day at, but it is such a unique scenery that one cannot miss.
Here is also a cool video that I took with my drone:
If you ask me, as long as I have visited once I don’t think I will ever visit it again as it’s more like a visit to a wonderful geological site than a visit to a beach where I can spend my day.
Also, between you and me it’s now always crowded and I just prefer more quiet areas to spend my day or more organized beaches with lots of amenities around such as Perivolos, Perissa, or Kamari.
However, if it is your first time on the island then you should definitely visit it, but always be careful about the falling rocks and always stay within the safe zones!
Have a great weekend and as always make sure you visit Santorinisecrets.com for more info on Greece and the Greek islands.

Excellent article. We have just returned from a brilliant holiday in Santorini. The Red Beach is definitely worth visiting but the path might be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. The nearby village of Akrotiri is very attractive with superb views. The archaeological site is fascinating and worth visiting. I agree that there are better beaches elsewhere in Santorini - our favourite is Kamari which is an excellent place to relax.
You described it perfectly.
